Disconnected Letters — The Secret of Surah Openings

الٓمٓ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ لَا رَيۡبَۛ فِيهِ
— البقرة الآية 1
What are they? 29 surahs begin with isolated letters: Alif-Lam-Mim, Kaf-Ha-Ya-Ain-Sad, etc.

Scholarly views: (1) Mutashabih — knowledge with Allah alone (Salaf majority). (2) Evidence of inimitability. (3) Surah names or attention signals.

Correct stance: Pause without asserting a specific meaning while believing they are Allah's inimitable speech — opinion of Ibn Masud, Ibn Abbas, and most early scholars.
Undisputed: Recited as Quran; each letter earns ten good deeds.
