Surah: Al-Baqarah (197)
Rulings on Ihram — Al-Baqarah 196-197
فَمَن فَرَضَ فِيهِنَّ ٱلۡحَجَّ فَلَا رَفَثَ وَلَا فُسُوقَ وَلَا جِدَالَ فِي ٱلۡحَجِّ
— البقرة الآية 197
The two verses:
"Complete the Hajj and Umrah for Allah. But if you are prevented, then whatever sacrificial animal is available." (2:196)
"Hajj is during well-known months. Whoever undertakes it — no sexual relations, no wickedness, and no quarreling during Hajj." (2:197)
Prohibitions of ihram from the verse:
Prohibitions of ihram from the verse:
- Rafath (sexual relations): Intercourse and anything leading to it — the most severe prohibition (invalidates Hajj).
- Fusuq (wickedness): All sins — already forbidden, but their gravity intensifies during ihram.
- Jidal (quarreling): Disputes and conflicts — because Hajj is a time of devotion and turning toward Allah.
- Covering the head for men — removing body hair — trimming nails — sewn garments for men — perfume — killing game — contracting marriage.
