Basic The Prophets Surah: Maryam (2)

Zakariyya and Yahya — The Strange Glad Tidings and a Martyred Prophet

Quranic context:
Zakariyya (AS) prayed to his Lord for a son to inherit him while he was aged and his wife barren. He was given glad tidings of Yahya and asked for a sign — he was told to keep silent for three days as a token of gratitude, not incapacity.

Context:
Yahya was described: "O Yahya, take the scripture with determination" — wise as a child, dutiful to his parents, neither insolent nor disobedient. Historical accounts record that Yahya was killed at a woman's request from the king — one of the rarest mentions of a prophet's murder in the Quran.

Lesson:
Prayer is answered no matter how long the wait. Yahya is a model of knowledge combined with humility: "We gave him wisdom as a child" — spiritual genius is not restricted to old age.
